 My First Blog Post
Back to Full Blog

Though I'm in the midst of a book deadline right now, I've become fascinated with the concept of blogging, and thought I would give it a try.

My name is Roxanne, and I've had fourteen books published by Harlequin SuperRomance thus far. The fifteenth will be released in October, 2007. The slogan on my business cards reads "Compelling intrigue--heartwarming romance", because I enjoy writing about the complexities of relationships between families and friends, and definitely love adding mystery and suspense to the mix. In 2008, I'll have a book out for a newer line--Everlasting Romance. For more information on my books, you can go to www.roxannerustand.com.

On a more personal front, I have a Master's Degree in Nutrition, and work three days a week as a dietitian in a psychiatric facility. I love my day job--wonderful co-workers, wonderful clients. I feel truly blessed to have both of my careers. My husband and I live on an acreage in the county with our daughter, who is now a high school senior, two horses, two dogs, eight cats, and one monstrously big goldfish. Our two boys have now graduated from college...and that thought just takes my breath away. Where did all the time go? It seems like yesterday that they were playing with their tractors and graders on our living room floor!

So...more than enough about me. I'd love to hear about you! Are you a writer? A reader? Which authors do you enjoy the most? And given that it's the beginning of a New Year, what are your special goals for this year?

As time goes on, I'll come back to talk about the writing process and about almost anything else. I hope you'll visit with me here, and that you'll come back again and again!

Best wishes,
Roxanne

Hi Roxanne:

Good for you in starting a blog. It's fun. I'm on one with other authors from San Francisco, Fog City Divas. We take turns and also respond to the ones each other post.

You'll make a lot of on line friends. And get others to find out about your great books.

All the best,
Barbara M.

Hi Roxanne!

How techno-savvy of you to set up a blog! I'm looking forward to your newest book to add to my collection. I'm sure the one you're working on now will be as fabulous as usual. Good luck with it!

Hey, Rox! It's great to see you here. 15 books now? That's wonderful!

How about some comments on the value of entering writing contests? Before you were published you were known as the contest queen -- what did you learn from that experience and what would you do differently now?

Hugs,
Leigh

Happy New Year, Roxanne! And to everyone else!

Congratulations on starting a blog! And thank you so much for the heads-up. I have a strong feeling that this will be a fun, valuable place to hang out!

How great that you're writing an Everlasting. I can't wait to read it! But gee, I guess I'll have to! In the meantime, I'll just console myself with the books I got for Christmas, one of them entitled Dead Silence. Gosh, who was it who write that again?

Be back soon!

Hi, Everyone! What an honor to see that all of you have stopped by. To anyone else cruising through, I'm in awe of all of these writers! Barbara McMahon must have at least sixty books out by now--wonderful award winners, and they just get better and better! Thanks so much for saying hello!

I just looked up the websites of all of these wonderful writers so you can go visit. Barbara is at www.barbaramcmahon.com. Very cool site, Barbara--and an amazing Bookshelf of all your titles!

Kylie Brant is at www.kyliebrant.com, and if you haven't been there, you've got to turn on your computer speakers and skedaddle over to take a look! Kylie has won tons of awards, including the prestigious, annual Daphne du Maurier Award for suspense, and two Rita nominations. She writes edge-of-your seat suspense that's just dynamite. What--twenty books by now? All super!

And Leigh Michaels--whoa! She must have set a record for recognition via Rita nominations, because her books are so consistently wonderful. She's written...what, over 80 books by now? Amazing record--and now she teaches online writing classes, provides critique services, and writes books on writing, too. Hey, Leigh--I see you have a new one coming out next month, through Writer's Digest Books. I can't wait to buy it!! It only seems logical to learn from the best writers in the industry! She's at www.leighmichaels.com.

And Brenda--hey, there, Brenda! Thanks so much for stopping by! Brenda is a fellow SuperRomance author who is now skyrocketing into a single title career as well. Probably everyone has heard about her amazing Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation fundraiser online auction by now. It's a cool place to bid on critiques by editors, agents, and published authors, plus lots of great merchandise. The auction is at www.brendanovak.com. As a dietitian who deals almost daily with clients who have diabetes, I can only say that every penny spent on the auction is vitally important for research. Help those researchers work for a cure for juvenile diabetes!

Kathy A--I'm guessing that you are the amazing writer who won the auction critique from me last year...? Without the last name I'm just guessing. But if you are--I was blown away by your talent, and wish you all the best!

And finally, R.E.---thanks so much for stopping by, and for your good wishes!

Wow, Roxanne, you are way too generous! Yep, it's that Kathy, and hard to believe it's been a year since you did a critique for me. Thank you so much for the compliment on my writing--it means so much, especially coming from an author whose every story bowls me over. Did you know you're the author who got me hooked on Supers? And thank goodness! I shudder to think of the stories I'd be missing out on!

The encouragement you gave me last year is STILL motivating me. I learned so much from your thorough review and still refer back to your comments as a double-check. I hope my most recent synopsis reads a little better than the one I sent to you last year!

Take care Roxanne, and thanks again!
